What's the difference between these two types of monitors?

Are they interchangable?

Will a VGA monitor be sufficient if my Adobe Premeire Elements 2.0 calls for an XGA monitor?

I've already purchased both the monitor and the software.

all monitors are XGA unless you have a monitor from the mid 1980's lol. XGA is just the display res of 1024 x 768 and every monitor after 1990 is XGA. VGA is the res of 800 x 600 which first came about in the 1980's.

so basicly in the year 2006 you really cant by a monitor thats just vga lol. your fine on whatever monitor you buy in that regards.

But when I went to Acer's website to find out what type I had bought, it said my monitor (Acer AL1716) is a VGA monitor. Will there be a problem using it instead of a XGA?

the VGA is just the input, such has either DVI input or VGA. and XGA still uses and VGA input, like i said every monitor, CRT after 1990 is in a sense an XGA since it displays the resolution of 1024 x 768. your display res for that monitor you bought is 1280 x 1024 which is even better then 1024 x 768.

you are fine.

Thank you King X13 for explaining this in detail to me.

I'm now clear on this issue. You made it very easy to understand.

The mention of VGA at the Acer site confused me....and had me concerned.

I learn something everyday....and that's the way it should be.
