Will somebody on 56K suggest a good modem?

Mostly because the external modem has everything it needs hardwired to do all it has to do. Most internal modems are winmodems which uses the system cpu and resources in order to perform it's functions. It's kind of hard to find an internal pci modem that has it's own controller and everything else built in. It used to be that the only way to get an internal modem that had it's own controller was to use one that goes on an ISA slot but those don't exist anymore
