Widescreen resolution help

We are getting a widescreen flat panel television, and I want to hook up my computer to it. I was wondering if there was any way to set a resolution on my computer where there would be no horizontal distortion on the screen, so I would have a super horizontally huge desktop but a "normal" vertically sized one, and everything on screen looks as it should be.

u need a video card that supports widescreen resolutions.

if u have an ati card (9x00 series or over) you can use the Omega drivers to unlock the widescreen resolutions.
