Default Widescreen Laptops

I'm looking into buying an HP laptop, and I see that it's widescreen. I know this is good for movies, but how about gaming. Will it cut off part of the game, or "smoosh" it together?

I have never had a HP but I have DELL (see sig). It works ok for games but I can't do high settings and I play games doom 3, half life 2, and far cry.
