Why won't DVD burner burn DVD'S!?!?

Alright. I thought it was the computer, but then i tried it on another one. IT WONT BURN DVD's! Its a freaking DVD BURNER!! It only burns CD's!!! HELP!!!

What brand and model is it? It is + and - compatible right? Is the media the right speed?

well... what kind is it? You know, there are CDRW/DVD combos that play DVD's but ONLY burn cd's.

it is possible that killians45 is right and you accidentally got tricked into the whole "combo drive" trap

DVD Drive

Check in "My Computer" to see what the drive is listed as (DVD/CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW). If it say's DVD/CD-RW you got drawn in by the combo drive crap...

yeah i agree, you bought a CD burner but just a dvd player. Also, check to make sure you have the right drivers? That usually wont affect anything (windows detects most drives without drivers) but who knows.

i've heard that sometimes new software needs to be downloaded that will also do a firmware update or something like that to get the dvd-burner working properly

burn with dvd shrink and see nero sometimes wont let u burn some dvd's

It is a BenQ DWsomething. It is a dvd burner. It says it burns DVD+r's, -r's, -rw's, dual layers, ect. It also shows a bunch of pictures on how it actaully burners thats different and better than other burners, something like it burns constantly at a 90* angle.
