Default why are pro gpus so expensive?

I was on Pricewatch and I saw this- Quadro FX 4000 SDI 256MB. it was $6,000. Why? what is it about this card and thoe FireGL ones etc that make em so damn expensive?

take a look here hmm I dont know why but the link only goes to Pricewatch, I dont understand html or whatever enough to know why their site doesnt have a diff url for different products but its under video cards anyway.

I don't really understand the Geforce Quadro GPU's, or how they are different

They process pixels in a different way i think. A quadro for example wouldnt play doom 3 as well as a 6800 for example. There targetted for workstations specialising in CAD and photo editing.
