biggest disaster I had was caused by lightning, it came in through the phone line (was using a Homeportal 100 at the time) it killed my router, 2 motherboards, two monitors, one 15" and and the other 21" monitor.

not even done yet, the lightning strike destroyed 3 surge protectors along the way... I was lucky I only lost that.

Default water cooling

This actually wasnt me but a friend of mine, had bought a whole new system, processor, motherboard the works and planned to install watercooling. Anyway he didnt check the connections properly and when he turned it on he completely drenched the motherboard... he tried to dry it out but it didnt function properly. He had to throw nearly all the new stuff away. (i got the processor though :P)...

As for me, im quite lucky having never lost anything too expensive. Have had to reformat quite a few times though....
