Whats the Difference

Unfortunetely, there's even more Athlon 64 cores than that. :p

Winchester - 90nm process, uses less voltage, runs cooler than the others, 512Kb L2 cache
Newcastle - 130nm process, usually runs slightly faster than Winchester core, but uses more voltage and runs hotter, 512KB L2 cache
Clawhammer - this ones getting pretty old, 130nm process, probably the slowest of the three mention, uses a 1MB L2 cache vs. a 512KB cache of the Newcastle and Winchester
Sledgehammer - used in the FX series I believe (not positive), 130nm process, fastest architechture around, 1MB L2 cache, expensive (Opterons may also use this core, I'm not certain, you don't want an Opteron though so don't worry)
Venice - not released as of yet, but right around the corner, 90nm process, runs at higher speeds and slightly more efficently than Winchester, 512KB L2 cache
San Diego - again, not released yet, similar to the Venice except it's used in faster processors and will cost more, also uses a 1MB L2 cache
Toledo - not released, this is the AMD dual core (two cores on one die), 1MB L2 cache, 90nm process
