What's the best way to layout a HD

My question is how best to partition a hard drive.

In the bast i've always split mine into 3

Partition C would be for windows, my docs and room for program files
Partition D would be for work and hobbies, so MS office, paint shop pro, nero etc
Partition E would be for games.

The reason for my question is because recently i purchased an Ipod and it along with ITunes set itself up on my c drive, before i knew it i had gigabytes of music in my music folder and i really noticed a slow down in windows startup and shutdown.

So is there a definitive way to set up a hard drive.

p.s. about to buy a new 320gb drive so feel free to virtual it partition it for me

the way i do it is C drive for windows and all programs then d drive for all files and folders i want to keep,, that way when i format windows i dont have to do anythign with my importing files, music ,vids ,, and since alot of programs need to be reinstalled after windows it seems pointless installing them on another patition
