Default What you guys think of this rig

I wanted to know if you guys think that my new laptop will perform at the level of my desktop, and about the deal itself.

GateWay 500XL: Purchased Oct 2002 for $2400

2.53GHZ Pentium 4
1024mb PC2700 Ram
120GB 5400RPM HD
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128mb
DVD-RW and CD-RW
Windows XP Home
18" DVI LCD

This system screams with eveygame ive played, most recentally BattleField Vietnam.....Doom 3 should have no problems either.

HP ZX5000: Purchased Aug 2004 for $1700

3.0GHZ Pentium 4 Hyper Threading
1024mb SDRAM
60GB 5400RPM HD
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 128mb
DVD/CD-RW
Windows XP Home
15.4" WXGA

Specifically...are the graphics card perfomance levels comparable?

For $1700 you could have gotten a so much better computer with the best GFX availible. I paid 950 for... and run doom 3 at 1280x1024 MED

AMD 2400+ Mobile 35watt @ 2.6ghz (barton core)
1gb Corsair XMS Ultra Low Latency PRO (5-2-2-2) CL 2
2 120GB HDD Ultra ATA100
ATI X800 Pro (hopefully hardmod to XT PE)
DVD-RW Dual Format / 16x DVD-ROM
XP Pro SP2
19.1 inch trinitron

That vid card you have is horrible for doom3

He is talking about a laptop

As for gaming, you would have been better off getting a AMD64, it is better for gaming and gets decent battery life compared to the 3ghz P4 Otherwise not bad

this is just a general question, dont take it personally caynee, why do people buy really good laptops? whats the point? why not spend half the money and buy a desktop system, if u have to get one for its mobiliy, why spend heaps on one?

EXACTLY!

if you want power, get a desktop . . .

get a laptop if you want mobility . . .

especially if you already have a desktop

you could have gotten a centrino system . . . those have really good performance

yeah I can't play **** on my moms laptop. The screen just doesn't display the graphics the same and it feels like there's lag between moving the mouse and getting the response. Nothing like a good gaming PC =)
