The 5970 is a piece of crap card. It wasn't designed to "Sell", it was designed to keep the #1 single card spot. And that's just a Marketing ploy, it has (2) gpu's so it is really the same as (2) cards. Only with the 5970, if one gpu goes out your whole system is down.

You can run 4 x 5970's in one system. You just can't crossfire them all.
crossfire is limited to 4 GPU's

Anyway, I don't understand why you're saying it's a piece of crap card - it even uses slightly less power than a 480.

Statements like that work both ways:

The GTX 480 is a piece of crap card that wasn't designed to sell but rather to hold the top single gpu spot at all costs. In fact it's such a fail design that TSMC still can't produce a fully functional version of it.

Both cards are halo products which are rarely the best option available.
