If u can go with a venice, it'll overclock really nice.

Go with the DFI Lanparty nForce4 Ultra-D

If you buy a retail CPU it should come with a heatsink, fan, and thermal compound.

and for the sound card...

I feel so bad to have to break up the party here but here goes.

DVD's sound Awesome, but if you listen to mp3's it's horrid. I have a set of Logitech's Z-560 4.1 Speakers and while the front speakers play fine, you have to enable SRS to get rear sound and SRS mode produces a muddy, washed out sound in the rear speakers.

Dispite everyone here saying to get a creative card if you play games, games play just fine with this card if you have a good CPU/ Video Card.

Bottom line:

DVD's - Ok
Games - Ok
Music - No

i plan on having a 200gb archive of every studio recorded music file on the net...

Huh?? Corsair is incompatible with DFI Mobos? What were they smoking? if its DDR SDRAM (which it is), it is compatible. To prove that wrong, read this review on newegg:

Quote:
[i]
I loaded a pair of these into a DFI "LANPARTY UT 915P-T12" 915P Chipset mainboard, and got some great results. Don't let the "Value RAM" tag bother you, this is some quality stuff.

Interestingly enough, I had the opportunity to toss a pair of the CORSAIR XMS, Xtra-Low Latency 2-2-2-5 (Model CMX512-3200XLPT) and run a memtestx86 from boot, and the test results were almost identical! I didn't change anything in the BIOS, both sets were detected at the proper timings. While the XMS may be better for overclocking (I wouldn't know, didn't try), for everyday standard use I could find no difference.

Thanks to newegg for the excellent service once again!

System specs:
Lian-Li Aluminum case PC-65
DFI LANPARTY UT 915P-T12 mainboard (7.1 audio, dual gigabit lan)
3.0Ghz Pentium 4 (530J)
XFX Geforce 6600GT (Pci-express)
1GB DDR400 ram (2x512 Corsair Value RAM)
250GB SATA Hard drive (WD)
250GB IDE Hard drive (WD) - from old system
80GB IDE Hard drive (for backups) - from old system
NEC 3500A 16x DVD-RW+DL
ASUS 16x DVD reader
Thermalrock 450W Power Supply
UV cold cathode 12", 2x blue LED case fans
Windows XP sp2, Nvidia 71.90 driver (beta)
