how can i be sure that the motherboards been shorted?
The lights still come on.

You may well of damaged a slot that the RAM (memory) slips in. Hence the no display. If the lights come on etc then a motherboard shortage its not..

The only other thing I can advise is to check the connection between the monitor and the PC. Also check if your monitor is switched on. I know its stating the obvious but believe me when I say that I have come across many people that have had no display and its always been a prob with the cabling and/or the monitor being switched off.

You put laptop ram on a desktop pc motherboard, sorry dude, u blew the motherboard.
