Question Weird and annoying keyboard issue

Dell Studio PC
Windows Vista

So I've been dealing with a weird and annoying keyboard issue for the last few months. Occasionally when I boot up either the 'L' or 'D' keys won't work. Pretty sure its not debris stuck in the keyboard, because logging out and logging back in sometimes fixes it, or results in a different state --

There are basically 3 states: 1) all keys are fine, 2) 'L' doesn't work, or 3) 'D' doesn't work.

Any ideas anyone?

Try reinstalling the keyboard drivers.

Do you have any extra software controlling the keyboard? If so, remove it, reboot and see if it begins working again.

Have you tried a different keyboard as well?

One time the caps lock got inverted and stayed inverted on my keyboard. Restarting my computer and unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back it didn't work. So I unplugged the keyboard, uninstalled the drivers in the device manager and then plugged the keyboard back in and let it automatically install drivers.. That did the trick for me.
