i am buying a new comp and have two options for the hard drive, a 500GB Western Digital with 32 MB buffer (5400 RPM) at Rs. 3150 ($61) and a seagate 500GB with 32MB buffer (5400 RPM) at Rs. 3500 ($70). which brand is better and more reliable? the WD is cheaper, but not by much

Everyone has their own opinion about hard drive companies. It basically comes down to which company you have had good luck with. For me that is WD (pauses to knock on wood).

Are these drives for a laptop? They are both 5400rpm. If they are for a desktop get 7200rpm drives. They will be faster.
