I searched the forums for wat makes a good LCD for gaming. I would get a nice big CRT but becasue of desk space it doesnt look like this is going to be possible.

So far i know that it has to have a low response time and a good contrast ratio.

This viewsonic, has a 8ms response time and a 550:1 contrast ratio.

Will it be good for gaming? Thanks.

Well, one thing to think about is if you get a 17'' LCD, that means you have a viewing area of 17'' 's unlike CRT's where you get something 19'' with an 18'' viewable area. So, if you bump it down to a 17'' display you would save money and it would look the same size as a 19'' CRT.

these will all suffice for gaming and multi media things. If you read some of the reviews most people find that for gaming, they work great with no ghosting.

19'' really isnt worth the extra money if you ask me. It's just a waste of space and money as the 17'' is already massive enough.

Again 19" is the way to go, more viewing area (more on one screen) at higher resolution and can place back at edge of desk with more deskspace. Once you go bigger you wont regret it.
DiabloII, that 4ms unit isn't what its cracked up to be. Its basically false advertising of a measurement of its lowest point not an even, accurate reading of it's true response rate. There is currently no standardization for measurements of gray to gray response rates so certain manufactuers are jumpin to exaggerate for obvious reasons. (i bet those VX924s are sellin like hotcakes right now) : better explained here:

The whole article is a good read...

Well thanks for the input. I really like the look of the monitor and seems you guys think it will be good for gaming because of the 8ms. Does the contrast ratio mean anything? Also, I have a 17" CRT right now but is basically a 16" but i want something much bigger, thats why i want the 19" LCD.

Does the contrast ratio mean anything?

Thanks

I would be fine with an LCD, just it would have to be a newer one and not an old one.
