Default Video Card upgrade smart or?

Ok as of now i have an asus ti4200 and im looking to upgrade to a ati 9600 xt, the biggest difference i see is the engine clock which is 2x faster 4200 = 250 , 9600 = 500. Everything else is basically 50mhz faster. The question i have is the engine clock as far as games goes affects how much of the FPS, my guess would be a greater portion than the actual memory clock or is it equal?
Thanks guyz appreciate it as always. Also if anyone has a better upgrade as far as cost/performance pls give me your input.

Ok, it's not so much the engine thats going to make it faster, although that does help. It's the support for DX 9.0 with pixel shader 2.0 and all those bells and whistles. The 9600 XT is a great card, go for it. You will have a noticable difference in many games, especially DX9.0 games like Halo and X2 and stuff.
