I have a choice between two video cards. Which one is better?

1) Nvidia 128MB DDR Geforce FX 5200 8x AGP from PNY

or

2) Nvidia 128MB DDR Geforce4 MX 440 8x AGP

I don't wan't to spend too much money. I can have either of these for $50.

Get the GeForce FX 5200. It is a DX9 card as the MX 440 isn't and is not compatible with most of todays games. The FX 5200 won't run todays games well, but it will at least run them.

Why won't it run today's games well? Isn't it a fairly new card? Also, what is DX9?

Thanks!

geforce 4mx 440 won't run many of today's game, it's a dx7 card. go with fx5200.

dx=DirectX, microsoft's API for gaming. the newest DirectX is DirectX 9.0c. most of games today require a graphic card that support Direct X9 or it won't run, fx5200 supports it, but 4mx 440 doesn't.

the ATi radeon 9000 128Mb is about as good or better than the 5200 and that supports DX9 i think, also the 9200 is better than the 5200

i would look for a FX 5500-5600 or a ATI 9600
in your situation (low money).Your better off saving your money a little longer to get a much better video card .
You`ll be glad you did :)

i agree, if you could wait just a little longer and save some more money you will be a lot happier. I have a 9600xt and I can play any game out right now, not necissarily at top notch quality, but they are playable.

Actually, it's not. The 9200 not only loses to the 5200, but also to the 9000 and 8500 (in other reviews that are not posted).

"...the FX5200 is hands-down, the better video card, from a performance perspective..."

"At the end of the day, we are left looking at a landslide of sorts. Without question, the GeForce FX 5200 is the undisputed budget performance champion. Even with that said, newer games such as Splinter Cell and UT2K3 are going to almost require you go to 800x600 resolution with no AA or AF in order to get playable frame rates."
