That 9600XT will serve you well, you wouldn't really need much more than it for the latest games. I would get the 256MB 9600XT instead of the 128MB 9600XT Extreme - but I really don't know the difference.
 
No! wait about a week and check out ATI 9800 series prices. With the new cards coming out these prices should drop soon! WAIT!! With all the action in the GPU releases give it time and then buy when prices go down!
 
I recently bought the eVGA nVidia 5700 Ultra for it's overlocking stability.

I have had lot of luck with it and I cannot complain. One day I might upgrade but not for awhile. Handles Call of Duty, BF1942, BF Vietnam and all the games with ease.

I think DeathToCats has a point. With the new release of the chipsets (See nVidia.com) the prices on some of the other cards will be dropping soon, if not already.
 
can't say, though I would go Radeon because they have tested to outperform Nvidia's cards
what I like about XT's is they overclock and underclock themselves where neccesary
