Default VGA splitter, multimonitors

I naively bought a VGA splitter thinking it would allow an extended desktop- but it just replicates the same display. So, rather than buying a new video card, I was wondering if anyone could suggest software that might enable my video card to recognize both monitors, so I can do different things on each monitor.

VGA is analog signal, and your'e just duplicating the analog signal to multiple ports. Can't be done as far as I know, as it's an actual hardware limitation.

Yeah, like Carnage said, no software will allow you to do this. It is a hardware limitation.
