Which version is best for my home computer?

Windows XP Home? OEM , Retail ?
or Windows XP Pro? OEM, Corp, or Retail?

It's a family computer. We use it for minor games, word processing, and Internet (Internet is shared over a router).

It is a Compaq Presario 5330US, Intel Pentium 4 1.7 GHz with 512 MB SDRAM, 80 GB Hard Drive.

Also, where is the best place to buy it? BestBuy or eBay?

id still recommend that you use Windows XP Professional...
if something goes wrong.. its more likely that one can fix it through pro than in the home version.
so if i were you id stick with XP pro.

This is untrue as it is just as easy to fix a problem with home, but his link states all the differences between home and pro

For you, unless you wanted remote desktop, you wouldnt notice a difference between home and pro

Remote desktop isnt the only feature you would miss... I for one hated the lack of IIS in XP Home... it made web deployment and testing a right pain.
