If I suspected my NIC was bad (which I sort of do), how would I go about verifying it's integrety, aside from making an MD5 sum of a huge number of files and sending them over a network? Might there be a program that can test all components of a network by handling a constant transfer/validation of data going between two computers (on which the program would be running) over said network? Since it just took me two minutes to figure out how best to explain that, I highly doubt it, but any application/testing suggestions are welcome.

Check on the NIC driver disk for any diagnostic tools, most NICs will come with one. What make is your card?

Marvell, I think. It's an integrated one, 10/100/1000.

Thanks for the link, that tester looked pretty extensive, but I was hoping not to spend any money, and buying specialized testing hardware is not really a good option.
