Vaio PCG-GRV670 LCD screen resolution

I am trying to find if it is possible to display higher resolutions in my labtop. The screen resolution settings allowe me to go to a 1600 by 1200 resolution. However, when I set it up this way the desktop screen is to big for my display, so the only way to see the contents of the desktop screen is to move the cursor in the particular direction of interest.

Can anyone help me on this?
