Upgrading the AMD CPU...need help!!

o.k...that's a whole lot of advice...and it sounds good so far...but isn't a high end Athlon 3200 better, and worth buying than a low end AMD 64 3000/3200?? I know I might sound stupid, but I'm just starting out in messing with PC hardware...so please try to give examples and try to explain it more carefully...thanks guys.

well no because the 64 series are 64 bit processors.. they are much better equiped for the future where 64 bit programs should be more common ..
