Tv Tuner

Hey im lookin to buy a tv tuner card, but i don't know whats good out there. I was just lookin for some info on them if you could help that would be great. Also, are you able to record the shows that you watch to? I saw an HDTV tuner card it was really expensive, does that only work if you have HD service or do you just plug in you reg cable and you get it. Are you able to scramble the signal going into the comp at all to get premium channels for free? Cuz that would be sweet to be able to get free hbo plus recording capability...movies galore...let me know thanx.

Also, im lookin at buyin something that will control all my fans, something with a nice interface, display screen and all that jazz. I was looking at some and usually they are only four fan controllers. I have 5 case fans, plus HSF, and vga fans. Thats way more than four. Do you just hook up all your case fans to one, then you have a spot for hsf and vga. or do i need to get a fan controller with like 7 knobs....

thats it for now im gonna have a million question coming soon because im building my first comp and im new to all this stuff, but im learnin. Thanks

The only experience I have with TV cards is I owned a Leadtek Winfast. I found this to be a great card for watching tv on and it came with a remote and fm radio. The best thing about it was that it only cost me £25.00 new.

As for the fan controllers the best one I have found so far is a Zalman one but that only controls 6. I suppose you might be able to double 2 of the fans to be controlled using the 1 knob. The link for this is below.

Read through this thread for everything that was discussed about that tv tuner. Its a great tv tuner for the price. I have it and cant complain about anything. It has many differnt options and features.

As for your fan controler, what exactly are you looking for? Do you want it to be lighted, do you want a lcd display pannel? You wont find many with 7 knobs for controling fans, but you could run two fans on one channel with a three pin spliter. This will work if the controler can handle the amout of power that the fans draw.

So with a tuner i can get tv and record and edit with the software that comes with it.....thats wicked cool. Im going to mod my pc too. i was thinkin bout throwin a 6 inch lcd screen into one of my drive bays..

this way i can watch tv and surf the internet and record and do all kinds of crazy stuff. Has anyone on TF ever done this. If so could you provide some info on how it went. I know its probably a really difficult mod, but im an engineer and would like to tackle this project, i think it would be really fun.

Also for the fan controller i'll prob do just what you said and hook up more than one case fan to a channel...so that won't be hard. But i do want a controller that has a display screen that tells you what fans are doing what...like i want to be able to check how well my cpu fan is working, as well as case fans and such....i was lookin at the zalman model, most people seemed to be pleased with it but it doesn't have a display screen to tell you rpms and degrees C...but there are programs that will tell you that right? so maybe it still would be a good buy? let me know.
