...trying to install this new hdd on a compaq...

I have this new NTFS formatted hard drive with XP Professional on it. When i put it inside this compaq (presario 5000) it keeps saying "Operating System Not Found on Any Devices". I've checked the master and slave settings and their fine, i'm completely lost, anyone have any ideas?

you need to either use the winxp CD with recovery diskettes to repair your installation or you must install the operating system again, but with this new hard disk already installed. you can't install winxp on another computer and simply transfer the hard disk. only with win95/98/ME would this work like that. to get into recovery console boot with winxp CD and press i think F2. it will promt you on the status bar

yes the jumpers and if your putting another hardrive on the same lead put the master as master with slave and the slave one a slave
