Default Thinking of building my first comp

I was thinking of building my first comp. Any suggestions or tips you could give me on the required parts and any recommended? Also recommended brands?

budget of around $500-600

I'm not quite sure what I want to use this comp for. Just random personal use and work, I guess. A decent graphics card wouldn't hurt though.

Well for that price I guess it'll be a budget system. Would you want overclock ur system or no?.. And are u planning on upgrading it later, or will this be the final configuration.

3200 Venice core 190
DFI Lanparty Ultra D 135
1gig value ram 80-100
6600gt 150
80gb Seagate sata HD 62
OCZ 420-450 Watt PSU 100
total about 580

what exactly do I have to look for when buying a HD? what is ATA 100 or ATA II?

corsair, OCZ, mushkin, ...? crucial....... if you dont plan on OCing get corsair value select ram 512 x 2 for 1 gig for only 78 bucks at newegg but i think the sale is over so its 81bucks..let me check.
