Yes. Unfortunately back when I didn't know anything about motherboards, when I went to have mine switched out the moron at the computer store put a glob on my CPU Core and put my stock heatsink back on, stock heatsinks have thermal pads......yeah made a complete mess on the circuitry near the core and eventually made the computer completely unstable and the chip runs hot. It didn't fry though so it still works but yes...use a good thermal compound, never use two thermal anything at the same time. It's one or the other and currently Thermal Paste is the most efficient.
