is there a superior hard drive?

im in the market for a new hard drive and they all look like the same thing tech spec's, anyways. like 7200 rpm. the only difference im really seeing is the price..

like im getting 2 160gb sata drives.
the ones that are catching my eye right now is-

you should get the Western Digital Raptor. its got 10,000 rpm and 74 gigs I believe. That's the fastest thing out there and its only about 170 bucks on newegg

oh, and SATA transfers info at 1.5gb/sec, while SATAII transfers at 3gb/sec

but your board has to support SATAII in order to fully utilize these SATAII HDD's

lol thats why im getting 2 160gb sata drives. 320gb
and daaayme thats expensive.
1 of those costs almost as much as 2 of these big drives.

The maxtor diamond max use liquid bearings and are far quieter than the segate counterpart.. They also benchmark right along with raptor drives.. (Search google for some benchmarks) .. However, the diamondmaxs have been out for less than a year.. so theres no way to tell how reliable they are in the long run.

The sata/SataII standards dont matter.. I've yet to see a drive that can bench more than 70-80mb/s by itself.. slap 4 of them in a machine and its still well under the 1.5gb transfer limit..

Something cool about raptors is that they have 2 heads and allow simultaneous read/write..

However i think its a waste of money compared to what you get out of an 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache WD drive..

You mean 70 to 80 mega BYTES not bits (B not b)

1.5 Gigabit is per channel anyways

Maxtor are far less reliable than seagate, maxtor are crap. Hihatci (IBM) hard drives have imrpoved, but that hard drive is still named "deathstar"

Western Digital or Seagate is your best bet.

im sure my boss would be willing to beat that price.. We got stuck with it after we had ordered the wrong stuff for a customer.. He wanted to corsair xms memory with the LED pad on the top that you can make scroll words/sentences.

Also, you're going to want the amd 64 3200 venice chip.. It gets better overclocks than anything prior to it.

859-635-5762 ask for tom (me) or scott (the owner).. Just tell him i told you about the ram and that you wanted to see if you could pick it up cheaper than newegg.. he does stuff like that a lot to get rid of stock that we wont ever sell otherwise..
