Default Temps?

I see a lot of posts with computer specs and somewhere in there I see how hot the computer is running. From what I gather, keeping it below 60C is ideal. My question is how temps are measured. Is this a piece of hardware you have to buy? What exactly is measured? ambient case temp? or the actual processor temp? Thanks

Mostly software such as everest and speedfan, is used to measure these temperatures. Some use hardware, such as a temperature meters or sensors. The software can tell the temperatures of the cpu, graphic card, hard drives, motherboard, etc.

Usually the readings arent that reliable tho. I once had a computer which said the cpu was 80C, when it was actually around 35C!
