Click here to view my wishlist.

I am building in the fall (early Sept-ish) and this is the rig I've come up with. Let me know what you guys think. No fanboy BS! I know I want nVidia and AMD, but I am open for suggestions on the mobo, PSU, case, and RAM. I have been a loyal Asus customer but have had bad experiences w/ them the last few months.

A few questions:
1. Is a dual 12v PSU necessary?
2. I don't have enough money to go SLI yet. But I want to have room for future growth....is SLI gonna take off and be worth the extra $70 or so for a SLI mobo or should I just get an nf4 chipset? From what I read it looks like it might not be all it's cracked up to be.

Thanks for you input.

So you're getting one 6800GT with the intent to upgrade to 2 later? Looks great, but a 7800 would be sweet.

A dual 12V is not necessary. However, it is suggested. Your spending the money, might as well dig a bit deeper and get one.

Get the normal NF4 board, DFI style, and when it comes time to upgrade video, just get an entire new card and sell the old one, cheap, to me. SLI is a waste of money, time, and all else.

I hate Raptors... prefer the sheer volume of slower, Seagate drives. But thats me.

And I think your case is ugly. Again, my personal beliefs. It looks like a good case.

Other then that, looks good to me.

Get a DFI nF4-D, you can pencil mod it to an SLI board, the hardest part would be finding an SLI bridge. You may also want to consider the upcoming DFI Crossfire board designed for ATI as it's been shown that Crossfire is more effective than SLI, but I really am not fond of either.

You do not need a multirail PSU.

That is the intent...maybe, if I decide to go w/ SLI.

Noted...thanks. I'm not real fond of the looks of the case, but it has all the features I'm looking for....just need to get rid of the armor door

No doubt, but this at least gives me an idea of how much I need to spend.

Thanks for the replies...I'm open to more ('cept lamer comments like 003's) Do you think that the speed gained from the raptors is worth the money? It seems that they haven't come down in price much in the last year.

Raptors cost vs. actual performance ain't worth it, IMHO. Try a couple of these Seagate 80 gig 'Cudas with NCQ
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148040

Bump the data drive up to 300gig with the money you save from the Raptors

You definately want to go with after-market cooling, 'cause I know you're not going to run stock speeds. Take a look at the ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU
