Taping DVDs onto video tapes quality loss

There's this DVD which I'd like to copy but when I tape it with my VCR it loses quality. It's not a copyrighted DVD like a film or anything so I'm willing to pay for a shop to do it but that is expensive and takes long. Is there any cheap way to do it myself without quality loss?

Well, the fact of the matter is, VHS is not as dense as a DVD, therefore it has a lower quality.
