monarch just emailed me today telling me that my mobo is finished with RMA and being shipped out today :) (unfortunately a long journey though, from georgia to so cal)

the reason it was being RMA'd was b/c the onboard sound didn't work; so now that it will (i hope), i'll need new headphones (im currently using a $5 one that only has sound coming out from the left and one of the wires fell out..heh)

these are more in my price range (around 15-30)

is there a great noticeable difference here? is surround sound really worth the money?

i'll be using them for occasional fps gaming and frequent music listening and they need to have a volume controller on it

so what do you guys think (i've asked this before and the major suggested the pc-150, but it's kinda outta my price range @ $60 or so)

Well if your gona pay $55 for the Zalmans then whats wrong with $60 for much better headphones imo.. ive personally got the Zalmans and ill just say it took a lot of tweaking to get them sounding good with onboard sound.

depends on how much money u got to spend on ur sound. i payed a total of £120 and got a audigy NX2 external sound card and hooked it up to my t7900 7.1 surround set and the quality is amazing. but that might be abit expensive for u. If ur laying FPS surround is really nice for gun shots comin from all around. But they can get very loud with 5 speakers and a sub :p

I personally think you should just buy a pair of stero headphones

First, you get what you pay for, surround sound headphones will be cheaper built because they contain more, and prices are jacked up due to lack of demand, same reason why they can price gouge me 225$ for my headphones :(

And none of your music is encoded in surround sound, it's all made for stero. Stero is better for music listening, including phasing sound in 2 channel.

Also gaming with stero is not that hard, I can easily pinpoint a gunshot to 25 degrees on some old crappy yamaha cheap monitors

I bought a Logitech gaming headphones with a mic for around thirty bucks. Fantastic headphones for gaming i might add.(you can hear steathy bas$ards sneak up on you from behind too!) I use them for gaming much more than my 5.1 Altec Lansing surround sound speakers which i paid over one hundred dollars for. :(
