Suggestions on an E-book reader?

I have looked into purchasing an e-book reader. So far, I have found none that have suited my needs. The idea of purchasing a tablet-pc is welcomed, but it is a bit out of reach at the moment. It should be capable of reading txt, pdf, etc.

Any ideas from you bright young chaps?
