Sudden mouse cutout :o(

I have a Microsoft optical mouse (not cordless) and I was using it 5 minutes ago when all of a sudden it just stopped working and the red light at the back went off. I tried re-plugging it back in, and also tried plugging it into a USB port through an adapter which does work, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Get a new mouse! Ha ha! Maybe this would be a good oportunity to get a new wireless mouse.
