Strange characters at boot up.

What causes a bunch of characters to be on the screen when the computer first boots up? To go into detail: When I cut the computer on immediatly the screen fills up with a bunch of 99s or zeros and dashes. It doesn't do any memory checks or anything. It seems to me to be a motherboard corruption. To fix this should I just flash the BIOS?

Ouch. Maybe you got a bios virus. Rare, but possible. Try a flash, it may work. If it dosent, I imagine that your whole mobo is corrupt. Maybe not through a virus, but through a power spike or surge or something, could be a million things.

do u hear any beeps at start up? can u get into setup?

do you have any other os's installed? it did that to mine when my partitions were mixed up with mandrake. But it didn't do it right when i turned on the comp so it may be different.
