Stalled Boot-up?

Hi, I've been having a strange problem with my computer lately since I installed a newer CD-ROM drive. It's kinda a long story but what happened was, someone gave me a computer with a fried motherboard awhile ago, so I thought I could use it for parts. I put in a nice CD-RW drive and it worked fine (and it still works).

But then I decided to use the CD-ROM from the same computer because mine is pretty old. So I installed it but then my computer just stalls at boot-up for around 2 mins or more. Then it just goes through everything like normal, and the drive is detected in My Computer. If I put a CD in it, it will play or whatever. The only problem is the stalled boot-up.

Right now I've got my old ROM drive in and it seems to be slowly dying, but everything is O.K. Why would my computer's boot-up be stalled from putting in a different CD-ROM drive?

Edit:
Btw, im using an Emachines computer, 633mhz processor, 192mb Ram, XP Pro with all the SP's. Both drives that I've swapped into it came from an HP computer which is fairly new i think.
