Default speeding up my pc

guys, i have a p4 processor, ATI radeon video card, two 256 mb memory and 80GB maxon and intel motherboard(forgot the model but it's a new one) and it seems it don't worth it after all.

what can i do to speed up my system. everytime i log in there's an alert "One of your file in system registry has to be recovered the recovery was sucessful". After that sometimes, a message appears "ATI has reset your graphics accelerator". I have my antivirus (Norton 2005) but i haven't download the latest definitions.

Also, everytime it starts up(starting screen with the windows loading), it took so long and oftentime it freezes.

What will I do? This will make my day.

And please tell be the best configurations on my hardware and system.

welcome to the site.. before you go screwing with things it seems you don't really know much about..

Have you done maintenance on your computer today?...
Check for spyware, adware?
Check for viruses and malware?
Defrag, delete old and un-used files?
Check for registry errors?

the list goes on, yada yada.. but do you keep your computer up to par in the maintenance departement?
