Default Sound card is Kaput!

Can anyone help?

I reformatted my dads computer as couple of days ago. Now the sound will not work. The computer he bought last year didnt come with driver cd's for the sound card! Are there anywebsites with drivers? The actual soundcard doesnt tell you what type it is what so ever! I fist though it would be a crappy basic souncard. I thought that you wouldnt need one for xp. I thought that xp would just be able to run it itself, like a few of my computers do.

Can anyone suggest a website for some sort of basic souncard!

This sounds random, but it's pretty important!

Appreciate it,

Rich

......there's gotta be a brandname or some kind of identification on the card somewhere.....usually when you do the windows updates it has drivers for your hardware if they need them, but generally the ones windows supplies suck, but should still be acceptable for your card. Other than that, if you can't find the brand name, there's not a whole lot you can do.

go to www.driverguide.com and download the driverguide software. It lists all sound, graphic, MB chipset, BIOS, etc and gives the driver info.
