slave drive o/s

Without wanting to sound like a moron, would a slave hard drive req. an O/S or would it simply req. formatting.
I wish to use it merely as a storage device for back-up?
Would the slave drive connect in-line after the master? thanxxx

yea the second hard drive can be used as a slave with no O/S on it .. just format it and you should be set ... u can join it with the same cable as of the master hard drive too just make sure the jumper settings on the back are for slave mode .. .
