(Redundant Array of Independent/Inexpensive Disks/Devices) ¬Ė A method of providing data redundancy, improved performance and/or quick data recoverability from disk crashes, by spreading or duplicating data across multiple disk drives. Commonly used RAID types include RAID 0 (Data Striping), RAID 1 (Disk Mirroring) and RAID 5 (Striping with Distributed Parity). RAID configurations typically require identical drives (same capacity, brand, etc.). RAID arrays appear to the operating system as a single device.

raid 0 is the most common type of raid, basically you're using 2 disks in tandom with raid 0 to get faster accessing and to have them appear as one drive, if one crashes tho, ur ****ed.
raid 1 is mirroring your data so if 1 drive crashes, you have the exact same data on another, and your not ****ed.
raid does require exact duplicate disks and a raid controller tho, most newer motherboards have raid controllers, but you can also buy pci controllers
