I'm about to build a budget gaming computer for around 600-700 dollars with an AMD 64 (754 socket). With the new release of the 939 sockt, PCI-E, and whatever else is being released around holiday season...should I be worried that my computer will become obsolete too fast?

I think I'm gonna get :

CPU: AMD 64 3000 (754 socket)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-K8NS
Video Card: 9800 Pro (or possible the 5900XT)
Memory: Cosair Value Select 512MB PC3200
Hard Drive: 120 GB 7200RPM SATA
CD/DVD: 16X Double Layer DVD+/-RW Drive

Any Suggestions?

i would disagree strongly, do not go for anything but socket 939, i wouldnt worry too much about pcie, but socket 754 shall become a hassle soon, stick with 939 even if a little more expensive.

EDIT: in fact i would wait to buy that 9800 or 5900 until the 6600GT comes out in AGP, it should revolutionize mid-level graphics. Nvidia sent out the reference boards for it in AGP already, so it shouldnt be too long now before retail is out
