scanner problems

i have an old lpt scanner, and it wont work. the percentage bar goes up to 100, but the bar thing inside the scanner doesnt move or light up. it works with an old win98 beast of a computer i have. i have tried the lpt port set on ecp and epp. do i need to do ps/2 ot at? why wont it work?
