Router or Modem? tis the question...

I need to know if i need a router and/or modem (My cable isp is comcast i have a line running into my garage. i have one computer in my basement which is connected to the line direcltly and uses a modem. I'm gonna put a computer in my room for gaming and i need to run both computers (the one in my room and the one in my basement) from the line in my garage. My friend said to put a router in my garage and it will split the line and i WONT need any modems. I just needed a second opinion on this. Thanks for any replies im still learning about this stuff ( and if i need a new new modem/router i need some reccomendations)

Your Going to need a router. I reccomend the linksys 4 port cable\dsl router. Whats going to happen is your going to plug your dsl modems ethernet cable (that used to go to your computer) into the wan port of the linksys router. Then your going to take 1,2,3, or 4 and take an ethernet cable and plug them into computer 1 and computer 2. This is very simple. Also this is available in the wireless version. which would require the wireless router, and adapters for both computers.

Reccomend wireless for computers that are in differnt rooms becasue its easier.
