now im looking to buy a 1600 by 1280 resolution monitor. but ive noticed theres higher resolution monitors out now but the prices steadily increase.

what im asking is what is the highest resolution there is thats affordable (past 1600 by 1280) and isnt a ripoff?

and one minor one about games. do most of them have a max setting of 1600 by 1200 or 1280?

Unless your lcd is going to be 20+ inches. You do not want a resolution higher than 1280x1024. My eyesite is 20/20 (very good if you don't already know) and I have trouble reading fonts on resolutions higher than that on both crt and lcd. Btw, for an lcd. If you don't run it at their native resolution, the picture looks like crap. My lcd's native res is 1280x1024 and if I make it lower the screen looks extremely grainy.

i think LCD's resolution is pritty perportional to its size...

usually -
15" = 1000x700
17" = 1200x1000
19" = 1600x1200
so if an LCD has higher then 16xres, its prolly somewere over 20"

its doubtful you will need a resoulution higher than 1600x1280, only professionals, drafters, architechts, etc need resoulitions like that. Also, if your going to buy a lcd that with that resoulution it will cost you a lot.

im not sure if it makes a difference on your eyes - im no optomitrest but you will get much more enjoyment out of i 19', i certainly would!

This is MY OPINION.

It is with the LCD that the industry continues to force us
to make the greatest tradeoffs.

I will continue to put off purchasing the LCD I want in both
size and features until they make a few improvements:

Dead Pixel policy. If there is a flaw in THE SCREEN, it is after
all a monitor, I want to return it for a new one. I bought it
new and they are admitting that THERE MAY BE FLAWS by
having a policy of 8 in most cases.

Color Rendering. There is no consistancy. Im not talking
about being exact but the range of color palletes makes
me think they all have their own color spectrum. This is in
regards to the most basic of monitor features-changing
the screen res. You should be able to do this without the
big hit to color quality(rendering).

Viewing Angles. I dont want to have to sit right in front
of the monitor but with some you have to. Remember the
old time large screen TVs.

Shell. I want a sturdy housing for the LCD components
that I will spend a fortune on. If you look closely at some
of the plastic used with some LCD manufacturers-it is frankly
insulting-thin-cheap-sometimes dull in sheen-ugly. I think
there is enough plastic in the world to offer a good looking
shell, a solid shell.

Gaming. There not great and second to a CRT in most cases.

PRICE...This is the big one. It is true that most of the
problems Ive mentioned can be solved if you spend the
money but the price is quite high.

Just do your homework before you purchase and Im
sure you will be happy.

Like I said-these are MY OPINIONS from MY research so
please keep the flaming to a minimum.

You took the words right outta my mouth.I went back to CRT with trinitron tube and sold my flat panel for big money to someone who liked the way it looked heheh.
