i dont think the crossfire is going to be that great, at least for enthusiasts anyways.

No, 7800GTX is not necessary yet. Games in a year or so may require something akin to the 7800.

7800GTX specs suck now cuz it doesn't have the chance to shine.. wait for new drivers, and new games, you'll see the difference then. Why don't you see much performance in an old game like splinter cell 1 between 9800XT and X850XTPE?
