Ok about a week ago a friend came over to study. We were using computer when I went to the bathroom. 15 minutes later when I come back the computer was shutting down. I ask what was going on and he said he was restarting because of a install he did. It turned out he downloaded some porn from some random site and opened it causing a virus to spread and turn the computer off. So I popped in the Windows Xp cd I have and went to the Windows repair and did fixboot and i starts. Heres where it gets good, macafee starts up with constant errors and my program pestpatrol was going beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, you get it.... So I spend hours deleting everything I can and using every program my dad recommended and finally thought I had everything, till I look in msconfig and some of it is still there. Quickly I went to my friends house with my airsoft gun (not a good idea since it looks nearly real) and told him to tell me exactly what happened. He said that it was a corrupted file in a zip and when he opened it, it crashed along with pc and then when I got back half-way thru scan it crashed (according to mom) I tried to reboot and it took about 10 minutes instead of 10 seconds. I decided to get my old 30gb 7200rpm WD and installed xp pro on it and I now am getting registry errors from From to To Windows alerter and when I open IE (cant keep it open long enough to get Firefox except now I got lucky) it crashes the computer. I managed to get Ad-Aware and run it and find some crap which then it crashed after I tried to open IE but now it seems to have stopped the windows alerts and crashing of IE. Anyone know what programs to dl and what to do. Also I have a Motorola Surfboard SB4200 Cable Modem and I have the Optimum Online cd but when I go to install using the Ethernet port it doesnt recognize it. I use to use my old modem to install then switch em out until my mom did something with it. Luckly the usb works but is slower so if anyone could help me with that.

Wow, i didnt know pRon damaged components, its so useful :p

Have you tried resetting your router/modem? There is usually a button you have to push at the back, usually with a ballpoint pen.
