RegCreateKey Ex failed code 5 access denied

Hi, Unable to download Spybot search N Destroy. I got this
Error creating registry key-- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT_Spybot SD.
Code 5, RegCreateKey Ex failed : code 5, Access denied.
How can I fix this . WindowXp sp1, IE 6 Thank you

I am guessing it's a form of spyware that is stopping spybot from being installed by locking places where it needs to put stuff...

I do not know if it will help any, but you could try installing it in safe mode.

Personally, when I start getting fed up with a 'swollen' or screwed up Windows Registry, I just reinstall Windows.

I will try to download Spybot in safe mode and let u know.

As for re-installing Window, can I do that over the existing one.

Try Registry Defragmentation. It is shareware, but it also has a free trial. It can clean up your registry a good bit, plus it streamlines it.

EDIT: Reinstallation should always be a last recourse, unless you have nothing else on your hard drive.
