Default Recommendation for a cheap, durable flash drive.

I am in need of a cheap, durable USB flash drive. This drive needs to be durable because it will be going to a person who tends to abuse technology. The flash drive does not need to be fast and will be used for storing pictures. 1-2GB should be fine. Budget= less than $15
I prefer the flash drive to be cheap because, chances are that this individual may still break the drive regardless of durability.

Here are 2 flash drives that I am considering.
CORSAIR Flash Voyager Mini 4GB
Patriot Xporter XT Boost 4GB

Why get him a durable one? Get him a cheap one so if he breaks it, you can get another one for fairly cheap.

Micro Center Products : Electronics : Flash Memory & Card Readers : USB Flash Drives
^some for $5!

Good point. Best thing about a cheap one is that if it does break, it will teach them how to treat a flash drive (hopefully).

I actually accidentally bent my Kingston 2GB. 'Bout a 45* angle. I bent it back straight, still works to this day.

Here's one with a titanium casing.

Amazon.com: SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Titanium USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ7-2048): Electronics

If dropping/crushing is what your worried about then that may be good. I was thinking about getting one when I got my 1st flash drive but just got a normal one instead.

Nice sale on it, too.

i use a flash drive with a retractable usb header. it eliminates the ability for the usb bit to snap off
Newegg.com - Verbatim Smart 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model 97086
Uses a slide bit,
Newegg.com - Kingston DataTraveler 100 Generation 2 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DT100G2/4GBZ
Newegg.com - PNY Attaché 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD4GBATT03-EF
will just push out, could be a bit more risky

Newegg.com - PNY Clip-On Attaché 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Blue) Model P-FDU4GBCL-EF/BLU
has a clip for a keychain or lanyard, also slides.

I been using the slide bit for 2 years now and no problems at all, best part is that you don't have to worry about taking the cover on or off.

Yeah I am surprised my slider part still works. I have a Sandisk Cruzer 4 GB and an 8 GB one too. Whenever I am holding one of them I am constantly sliding the connector out, then back in all the time.
