what does the 2-2-2-5 mean in:

512MBX2 Corsair XMS 2-2-2-5 PC-3200

also...can i put in a single dual channel stick of ram into a computer that supports the ddr sd (except the mobo isnt dual channel). or does dual channel ram have to go with dual channel mobo

The first 2 is CAS Latency Control (tCL).
The second 2 is RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD).
The third 2 is Row Precharge Timing (tRP).
The 5 is Min RAS# Active Timing (tRAS).

This site explains what all of that is about: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11397

As for your dual channel question, yes, I do believe you can put dual channel RAM in a motherboard that does not support dual channel RAM. The only thing is, is you put it in a motherboard that DOES support dual channel, it will run a heck of a lot better.

yes dual channel ram can run in a non dual channel mobo, it simply won't run in dual channel. look at the sticky under the overclocking section of forums for more detailed info on the latency numbers.
